Moon Child

Moon Child Pic

Naming this week’s teen caused my mind to call a tie breaker, only because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go the funny or deep route.  I ended up going deep, because go big or go home, right?  Or… something like that…  “Moon Child” ends Teen Life’s second month, and next week another super cool girl will kick off month 3!  Calling all TEENS!!!  Keep bringing your awesome selves to Teen Life, because it’s cool and stuff…  “And you know this… man…”  Ok, I know some of you won’t get that quote unless you are around my age, probably.  Oh my gosh, I’m getting old.  Anyway, back to Teen Life, the ones who aren’t old!

One of Moon Child’s questions was to give five objects that represent her.  “The Moon” was one of those objects, and you can read why below.  To me, it set the tone of her story.  I felt like it had some deeper and more mysterious meaning behind it, something I think could reveal more about her.  The moon has always been mysterious to me.  Was there really a moon landing?  Was it really simulated in a Hollywood studio?  We may never know.  The wolves howl to it.  The witches dance under it naked.  There’s a man up there in it.  Cheese… it’s what the moon is made of.  It causes pregnant women to go into labor.  The crazies always come out when it’s full.  Ocean tides rise because it’s a magnet for water.  The moon…  what power it possesses.  Moon Child is right; it’s inconsistent, but it is always there.  I like Moon Child, and I like her a lot.  Her brain seems like a great place to be.  I’ll lend it to you for a bit while you read through her words.

Teen Life.  One word.  Go!

Positive

Hey, positivity right out of the gate!

Do you think the town you’ve grown up in has influenced the person you are?

Yes, very much so

What is something that you believe in strongly?

Everyone is equal, no matter who they are.

To that quote I will leave you this:

Equal Pic

What is the most inspiring thing you’ve ever been told?

You have to speak what you feel, not what you have to say.

What is the greatest responsibility your parents have given you?

My car

Write about a time when you made a sacrifice for someone else.

There have been many times I stayed home and didn’t do something to watch my 2 year old nephew so my sister could go what she wanted.

Choose five symbols or objects that represent you. Why did you choose these things?

A treble clef:  I love music, and want to learn as much as I can about it

The moon:  I’m inconstant

The wind:  I’ll never be the exact same twice

The water:  I kind of go where my decisions take me.  I don’t think about things too much

A mother bear:  I tend to worry a lot about people I care about.  I never want them hurt

You just took it deep, Moon Child.  I like your brain and the way the symbolism works.  You’re real, and that’s good.  Don’t change your brain for anyone or anything.

What does it mean to be a family?

Being a family is being with people you’d be willing to die for, no matter if they’re blood or not.

What inspires you?

My nephew, he’s 2, so he’s kind of everywhere all the time.  He goes where the wind takes him.

I get that.  Kids are flighty, all over the place.  Their innocence and whimsy is inspiring.  It’s also exhausting when you have three of them.  They’re fun though.

If you could visit another decade from the past 100 years, which would you choose?

I would visit the 50s.

And, if you ever visit the 50’s, you will take me with you.  I was meant to be born in the 50’s, that’s all.

What would it be like if you could control your dreams?

If I could control my dreams they’d be full of love and happiness.

Do you pray? Why or why not?

No.  I believe if there is something you really need in your life God would know that it’s bothering you, without asking him directly all the time.

That’s an interesting concept and a thought I have tossed around quite often.

Do you believe in God?  Why or why not?

Well, yes and no, if that’s possible. I believe in God, because it’s better than believing in nothing. I’ve always been raised that God exists, and he’s always watching; but it seems crazy that he just appeared one day and made everything.  If God exists, why is there so much pain and suffering?  Why do people hate one another?   Why is there war?

That is something that is not understandable.  Pain and suffering has existed for so long that some people only know that as their way of life.  I feel like it is much easier to live a life of happiness than one of pain and sorrow, but that’s just me.  #Worldpeace

How have you changed since last school year?

I’ve changed my way of thinking. I question everything.

When you get older, what memories from your childhood will you want to recall?

I’ll want to remember the good memories, as well as some of the bad ones; happy times with my friends and family, as well as the worst times that taught me valuable lessons.

Those valuable lessons… They’re the hardest ones to stomach, to feel, to exist in, but they are the ones that will mold and shape who you will be for the rest of your life.  They are a part of your path, part of that inconsistent glow that the moon provides.  It lights your way when you’re facing a path diverged, and you have to choose only one way to go.  We remember the hard times more than the happy ones because they change everything.

What is the nicest thing you’ve ever done for someone else?

I stopped someone I barely knew from killing themselves.

Wow.  Just wow.  That is an amazing part of your story, one I would love to know more about.

What does it mean to stand up for what you believe in?

It means everything to me.  If you don’t stand up for anything, you’ll fall for nothing.

Stand for Something Pic

What values will you teach your children?

Everyone is equal.  Don’t judge anyone by appearance.  Some of the best people you’ll meet might be covered in tattoos and piercings.  Your body is your canvas, paint it how you want; just keep it meaningful.

I like that.  Don’t judge by appearance.  Some of the most “put together” people can be the “worst”.

Where will you be five years from now?

Five years from now I’ll hopefully be in college, starting my life.  Hopefully, I’ll still be with my current boyfriend, maybe building a life together.

Which subject in school is the easiest? Which is the hardest?

I wouldn’t say there’s an easiest and hardest subject.  There are ones I like more, but they’re all kind of equal in regards to difficulty.

If you could take a dream vacation, where would you go?

I would go somewhere quiet, by the beach, somewhere peaceful.

How do you contribute to your family?

I help my mom with the kids, help clean, and bring entertainment.

Bring the entertainment…  What does that entail?  I want to see a glimpse of the entertainment you bring, please?

How can you share your talents with others?

I’m in choir, but I’m kind of shy.  So, I don’t like showing off too much.

What is the best way to get someone to stop bullying another person?  Should you defend the victim?  Start a fight?  Make fun of the bully?  Why or why not?

The best way to stop bullying is to tell an adult that can handle it.  If I stepped in for the victim it could make it worse for them when I’m gone.

That is one thing I don’t think people think of when standing up for someone.  It’s awesome to take a stand, but what about the times you cannot be there to defend them?  Then what happens?  That’s some good advice.

What is the difference between teasing and bullying?  How can you tell the difference between them?

Teasing is between friends.  Even the “victim” of teasing laughs with the other people.  Bullying is intended to make that person feel bad.

Have you ever felt bullied by someone?  What made you feel this way?

Yes, I have a “friend” who likes to make fun of me a lot.  I kind of felt attacked when she didn’t stop.

Have you ever bullied another person?  How did you feel before, during, and after?

I’ve never intentionally bullied someone, no.

Why is it important to accept people for who they are?

People can’t change who they are, and it isn’t right to try to change someone because you don’t like something about them.

How can you encourage other people to be more accepting of those who are different?

Show them how they’re different from everyone else.  Tell them it shouldn’t matter if someone is different.  We’re all made of bone and muscle.

“We are all made of bone and muscle.”  Words from the mouth of Moon Child.  What an awesome quote!

Does the way that drugs and alcohol are shown in TV and movies ever make you want to try them?  Why or why not?

Not really, I understand the affects of hardcore drug and alcohol abuse.

Have you ever been offered drugs or alcohol?  How did you handle the situation?

No

Have your parents ever talked to you about drugs and alcohol?  What did they say?

They have always told me to be careful.

When you get mad, how do you handle your anger?

Usually I just bottle it up until I’m alone, then I might cry or draw or sing or something.

Creativity is an amazing outlet for emotions.  Anytime, throughout my life, when I have been going through something major or just a funk I always write.  Writing is my therapy.  For some, it is art or music or some other creative outlet.  Keep that up!  People with creative minds are different creatures, but we are never dull.

What is something you dislike about yourself?

I dislike my body, and the way I think.

Those two things will forever cause a love/hate relationship in life.  Thoughts and body image.  Do we ever grow completely comfortable with those two?

Have you ever been depressed?  If so how did you handle it?  Are you still depressed?

Yes, I never really handled it.  I just kept it all hidden until I was alone, and I cried myself to sleep.  I am still depressed.

Trusting someone to confide in with your struggles is important.  Being alone with it can create further damage, but talking it out with someone that isn’t involved in the situation or even close to you can help you get a clear perspective.  I am always here if you need someone to talk to.

What is the worst thing you’ve ever gotten in trouble for?

I got in a “fight” in 4th grade at school.

What would happen if there were no television? Why would this be good? bad?

People would develop their own ideas, rather than being brainwashed.  This would be good.

I completely agree with that.  I think it would make a huge shift in society for the better.  Awesome answer.

What would happen if it really did rain cats and dogs?

Depending on the size of cats and dogs, some people might suffocate.  People allergic to cats wouldn’t have much fun.

Hahahahahahahahaha.  This made me laugh, a lot.  Your answer was so truthful and well thought out.  It was also the other answer to me almost naming you “The Cat’s Pajamas”.  But, I wasn’t sure if you even liked cats or pajamas.  Maybe you’re allergic to them, I am.  But, it’s not so much about the cats, themselves, but about the “cool factor” of the person.  And, last time I checked, you’re pretty cool.

If you could break the Guiness Book of World Records it would be for?

Most dogs in one house

See, obviously you’re a dog person…  In a house packed tight with dogs…  a cat would most likely perish.  I’m glad I didn’t name you “The Cat’s Pajamas” now!

What makes you feel beautiful?

When I see the way my boyfriend looks at me.

Awwwwww… just cute.  That’s all.

What would you invent to make life better?

I would make a bracelet that could read people’s minds and shock them when they judge others before they get to know them.

YES!!!  That is an awesome invention.  A shock bracelet for (I won’t say the word I want to say here) people who judge!  Put them in a yard that’s filled with people that have tattoos and piercings and come from rough backgrounds, black, white, Native Americans, gay, lesbian, etc.  When they try and jump the fence…  their arm hair instantly singes!  Bam!

This is your free space.  Say anything you want, and be completely open.

I’m kind of nervous about being accepted.  I hate being alone.  I love reading.  The reason I love music so much is because it takes me somewhere else.  I can have a different personality depending on what kind of music I’m listening to.

Moon Child has rocked my socks off today.  I don’t even know her, and I love her.  I love her thoughts, I love her brain, I love her cute-ness factor, I love how deep she is, and I love her real-ness.  Moon Child is real.  Be like Moon Child.  Tonight, go out and look at the moon above you.  Look at it really deep, and know there are teens out there in the world, the same world you exist in, that are suffering because they don’t fit in.  Know that they hurt deeply because of unwanted words and actions thrown at them from many directions.  Know that they are often struggling with things we may not even know about.  Also, know that they are amazing people with wonderful souls trying to find their paths in the world.  They live under the same moon and stars that we have lived under for many years.  And, once before… we used to be there where they are now.

Peace, Love, and Jesus,

Robyn

Wave Charmer

Wave Charmer

Hey party people! It’s not Wednesday, but better late than never though, right? We’re mid-spring break, it’s almost the end of the school year, and summer is slowly approaching. What could be wrong in life right now? Nothing, that’s what. And… Teen Life, week 7 is here. Week 7!!! So, who’s on deck today? Not a girl walking the plank amidst the stormy seas, that’s for sure. Plank walking would mean that this girl, (who is our youngest in the group yet, I might add), lets others control her destiny with an ultimate defeat. That’s not this girl’s style. Let me tell you why. Everyone knows how strong and powerful waves can be. Rocks and land become eroded by their repetitive crashes, but they don’t waiver. They stand strong even though their composition changes. That’s what words do when they crash into someone’s soul. Remember the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”? Well, guess what? Whoever wrote that was wrong. Words hurt. They may not physically hurt, but they most definitely change your internal composition. Today…words=waves. And, that’s where Wave Charmer comes into play!! Young but mighty, Wave Charmer has the purpose of calming the raging waters. She’s in a place of self-discovery in her life right now, but I can see a quiet and strong girl emerging from the deep. Need a visual? Picture a young, beautiful, sea siren with curly hair. She doesn’t speak much, but when she does her soul smiles and the waters calm. People adore her, and they should. She’s magical. Listen to the words in her sea song:

Teen Life. One Word. Go!
Helpful

Describe your day in detail
Most of the time my days are okay. I go to school from 8:30-3:25, and I get home around 3:30. When I get home I get a drink and do homework.

What is one of your favorite childhood memories?
Playing with all my family during cook outs

I have a lot of those same memories also.

If you could visit one country, which would it be and why?
I would want to visit Germany to learn about their history and geography.

What annoys you?
Large crowds

What is something you wish your parents did differently?
I wish they would try to understand more.

What is something you think your parents are awesome at?
They let me have some freedom.

If you could learn one thing at school that they don’t teach, what would it be?
I would want to have an art class all year long. There are terms, and we only have art once a year.

YES! I would have art all year long as an adult if I could. It’s awesome to be able to express your creativity and see your work come to life. That is one class I was never able to take in school because I was always in Band.

What is one thing you would like to say to your teachers?
Please be more understanding.

What is something you would like to say to your school?
Please be calmer. Yelling isn’t my type of thing.

Why do you think people want to tear people down or make people feel small through words or actions?
I think people want to feel better about themselves

So far, all the girls have nailed this answer. If everyone knows the answer, then it must mean that there are a lot of bullies out there feeling unsatisfied or unhappy with themselves; so much so that the destruction of others makes their pain significantly smaller. What could we all do as a society to build these awesome chicks and dudes up instead of breaking them down?
Take a look at what this super awesome teacher does to make a change in his world:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UZ_lWr028o

Have you ever been bullied? If so, describe the situation.
No

Have you ever been cyber bullied? If so, describe the situation.
No

Have you ever made fun of or bullied anyone before?
No, if my friends do, I stay out of it.

Good Job! That’s one of the safest things you can do in that type of situation.

Do you gossip?
Sometimes, but not as much as some people.

If you see someone being mistreated, gossiped about, or not being included, do you normally sit back and do nothing or do you take a stand?
After the person gossips, I go to the person that was being gossiped about and tell them.

Do you believe in God? Why or Why Not?
Yes, I do. I believe in him because when I have a tough time I pray, and that makes me feel better.

Praying always gives us a closer connection with God. It may not fix our problems, worries, or hurt immediately, but He never leaves us. He’s always there, even when we can’t always feel Him.

Have you ever been depressed? If so, what brought it on?
Yes, my childhood wasn’t as great as it could be.

Are you still currently depressed? If not, how did you get through it?
I am still depressed.

Depression happens. It can happen to anyone, and no one type of person is immune to it. Remember during your dark times that you are never alone. You have God on your side when many others don’t. You also have family and friends, and of course this crazy girl right here. The voyage to self-discovery is a turbulent one, it always is. But, I named you Wave Charmer for a reason. You have the ability inside you to calm those super, powerful waves when they crash upon you. They can become tiresome and repetitive, but don’t ever give up and let them swallow you. Sea sirens never lose their charm. They’re beautiful and strong. They charm the heck out of some waves. You possess magical powers within you, not the type of magic you see on television or in movies, but the real deal. Your channel to superpowers begins with God, and with Him anything is possible. Just close your eyes, sing to those waves until they’re calm, and sit back to watch the magic that unfolds in your life because of how awesome you are!

Does anything give you anxiety? If so, what?
Large crowds, yelling, and sometimes family

Pick one that resembles you the best. When you have problems to deal with or when something bothers you, which one do you resort to?
1. Stuff them down until you don’t have to deal with them anymore
2. Run from them
3. Stick it out no matter how hard or how much it hurts

I stuff them down until I don’t have to deal with them anymore.

Have you ever experiences verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse?
No

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever gotten in trouble for?
I’m not sure, I don’t really get in trouble.

Well, that’s really, really good and something to be proud of!

Sex… do you wait for marriage or do you feel like it’s that important to wait anymore?
I think it’s important to wait for marriage.

Drugs and alcohol. Tell me about what teens are doing these days. What kind of drugs? How often?
I’m not sure. None my friends do drugs so I’m not around that.

What makes you laugh?
My dog

What makes you cry?
My dad sometimes

Do you feel beautiful?
Sometimes
What makes you feel beautiful?
When people give me compliments

What prevents you from feeling beautiful?
When I don’t have makeup on, and see my real face

I think that is something that a lot of girls and women struggle with daily.

Name one negative thing in your life.
Depression

Now, tell me three positive things about your life.
My family, friends, and having my mom.

What is the hardest thing you’ve ever faced in your life? How did you get through it?
Losing my grandma, I focused on knowing that I would see her in heaven.

That is something that always gives us peace of mind when we lose family members or friends. I was in 7th grade when my grandmother passed away, and knowing that I would see her again always kept me going.

Who are you closest to?
My mother

I have to say that she is pretty awesome and a good, strong example of how a woman should be!

What is one thing you could change about your life to make it better?
Having my grandma still

What is one thing you could do to make the world a better place?
Be more calm

What do you think is the best thing about you?
My personality

Ummm… yeah!  Your personality totally rocks!

What makes you feel self-conscious?
When I feel like people are looking at me

What worldly cause are you passionate about?
Peace, the world is full of horrible things right now.

#World Peace. It needs to be a thing!

What is one thing you cannot live without?
My mom

What are your hobbies?
Watching T.V., Walking, and Playing with dogs

What is something you’ve always wanted or wanted to do but never had the chance to get or do?
Go bungee jumping

We need to all take a big group trip because I would LOVE to bungee jump!!

What do you want to be when you grow up?
An anesthesiologist

If you had one superpower, what would it be?
To read minds

How awesome would that be?

A genie grants you three wishes, what would they be?
1. To have peace for a day
2. Have a million dollars
3. Have world peace

I’m seeing a trend here with the peace thing. Am I sensing a future hippie on our hands here?

What is the weirdest thing about you?
I want to be a dog lady, like have over 15 dogs.

What is one thing you want your parents to know about you?
I want them to know I wish to have more freedom.

What is one thing you want your friends to know about you?
I like girls and boys

What is one thing you want the world to know about you?
I am happy about my body, and people can’t change that.

No one can take the way you feel about yourself away from you. You own that. Stand strong, and know that you are beautiful!

What do you think society misunderstands about teenagers?
That we are all trouble makers

What do you want to say to bullies out there?
Get a life

What would you like to say to teens that struggle with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, abuse, or bullying?
Life is hard, but with support you can get through it.

Those are words straight from the soul of Wave Charmer, good ones too. Perfect advice. There’s always support out there from someone or something when you’re facing hard times. Just ask and help will come to you.

This is your free space. Say anything you want. Be completely open.
I can be really random at times.

Random is a good thing. It makes the world more interesting and unpredictable. Stay random!

Wave Charmer’s Sea Song has come to an end. I hope the lyrics to her soul were as beautiful to you as they were to me. Words make history, and it is worthwhile to listen to all the words from these amazing teens. What’s the first step to becoming a Wave Charmer? You see the power in the waves coming at you and know that you have more power within you to hold them back than any damage they could ever cause! Next step, create your own song and realize the beauty in it. Project your song across the raging waves for as long as it takes. The waters will eventually calm. Smile and know that you are beautiful!
Thank you Wave Charmer for coming into my life and bringing beauty and calmness in my day. I hope yours is blessed and beautiful. Keep Charming…

Peace, Love, and Jesus,
Robyn

Teen Girls Pic

Hi world, it’s Robyn again!  Wednesday = Teen Life Post!  Mid-Week has now become one of my favorite times, and I get four of those each month!  In the spotlight today is another special chick, and that makes my heart super happy.  What makes today’s post a little different is that this girl isn’t someone I’ve known for a while.  She was referred to Teen Life by a friend of hers, and I think that’s cool.  This will be one of my more memorable posts because it’s not someone that I reached out to and asked to join.  It’s someone that found her way here regardless.  I firmly believe that we are all connected during specific times in our lives for a reason.  So, let’s unfold the first stage of this connection!

I’m slinging “Deep Purple” into the Teen Life mix today, and I’m not referring to the band from the 60’s and 70’s either but a real life girl.  When she first introduced herself to the group, these are the words she used to describe herself:  “I’m a psychological and deep person”.  To that I said:  “Welcome, you will fit in perfectly!”  Deep people feel every emotion to the “next level” or “to the extreme”.  I, myself, have always been a deep person, emotionally and mentally, so I’ve got your back Deep Purple.  I think the psychology and deepness go hand in hand personality wise.  Obviously, you can see why I chose the “Deep” part of her name, but what about the “Purple”?  Let’s get deep.  Purple isn’t a primary color, instead it is a combination of two primary colors (Blue and Red).  Blue is a “stable” color (in meaning) and has a cool property and red’s meaning is bold and fierce with a warm tone.  When you mix stability and boldness you get royalty, nobility, luxury, power, ambition, wealth, extravagance, creativity, wisdom, dignity, grandeur, devotion, peace, pride, mystery, independence, and magic.  You get a tornado of emotions and personality by mixing a warm and cool color together.  While you might not “feel” all these emotions and personality traits yet Deep Purple, you have a whole life ahead of you to get real deep into these different aspects of yourself.  Plus, purple is near and dear to my heart, and purple rocks just like you!  Time to get deep within “Deep Purple’s” brain!

Teen life.  One word.  Go!
Creative

There is a purple trait for you to start this thing off with!

Tell me about your typical day.

I get up, go to school, hang out with a few friends and have a great time in art.  Then I come home and talk to my boyfriend all day.

What are a couple of your hobbies?
Drawing, singing, playing video games, special effects makeup and writing

Special Effects Make-Up??  Can we do some zombie make-up together sometime?  It’s so much fun!

What do you do in your free time?

Write, talk to my boyfriend, or play video games.

What was your favorite toy as a child?

A Baby Doll

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Gulfshores, Alabama, because I miss home.

Pack me in a suitcase, and take me with you.  My soul belongs on the beach.

Do you like cupcakes?

Yes

Ummm…  Who doesn’t love cupcakes?

What did you eat for breakfast?

I don’t eat breakfast

When I give the following colors say the first thing that comes to your mind using one word only.

-Purple

Deep and dark

I just want to say that I named you before I even saw your answer to this color question!  What???  How cool is that?  There’s some affirmation there.

-Green

Envy

-Red

Blood

-Black

Beautiful color

-Yellow

Sun

What is your favorite song?

Lifeline -Kenny Holland

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYQB38sc_E0

I had never heard of this song, but I listened to it and really like it.

What do you daydream about?

Being happy

Someone tells a few people a secret you confided in them about, and it spreads through the whole school.  What do you do or say?

I just keep to myself and let it transfuse from person to person until it diffuses itself.

See… there’s some more knowledge dropped from a teen that all adults out there could use.  Great advice.

Do you think teenagers today have it too easy?

Rich teenagers, yes

Do you think teenagers today (including yourself) show enough respect toward Adults? Parents?  Teachers?  Brothers and sisters?

No
Why or why not?

Because the society we live in has taught us hatred and greed.  We take advantage of everything, and when something goes wrong we blame that thing or person because we can’t accept wrong doing.

YESSSSS!!!  Thank you.  Thank you.  Word.

What’s your stance on parents letting teenagers get tattoos?
It depends on the tattoo.  My aunt killed herself, and I’m getting a tattoo in remembrance.

I think that’s an awesome tribute to her life.

Do you have a good relationship with your parents?  Why or why not?

No, because my mom is psycho and most of my friends agree she is a bad parent.  My dad left when I was very young.

If you could swap places with your parents for one day tell me what you would do differently as a parent.  What would your parents learn about your life?

I would understand their emotions, and know that I’m too strong.  I put up with a lot that no teenager should.

Do you have brothers and sisters?  What is your relationship with them like?

Yes, and we don’t talk anymore.  But one of my sisters and I agree on how we feel about our dad.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever faced?

Everyday life

How has bullying impacted you personally?
I live with it every day, and I’ve learned that no matter what I won’t be able to accept myself.

This is the reality of bullying people.  No matter how big or small the act of bullying is, it negatively impacts a person’s ability to accept themselves for the truly awesome person they really are.  Deep Purple, if not today, one day you will understand your worth.  No person but you owns that worth.  Never let any single person’s words gain more power than the power you hold.  Purple = Power.  Never forget that.  Use their words to fuel your power.  You may not be able to stop their words and actions, but you can control the penetration of it into your soul.  Sometimes it feels like negativity and terrible things come our way from so many different directions until it eventually breaks us.  That makes life hard.  You may not know how to use the fuel and power now from that negativity, but one day you will have the ability to help so many people through tough times.  You are not broken; you are beautiful.

Do you have a cyber bullying story?

Yes I do.. I have had people pretend to be me, and it made me lose several of my friends.  Umm… I’ve had people threaten to kill me.  Several more I wish to not speak about.

Not cool.  Will this ever end?  Parents of small children, I’m talking to you.  Please, please, please start laying a foundation in your children to build others up instead of tearing them, if you’re not doing this already.  They have to know that their words and actions have serious repercussions.  Teens today have it coming from so many more angles than we did as teens.  We may not be able to change the world, but we can change ourselves.  And, change within us can propel a change in the world.

Many teens are currently facing or have faced depression in their lives.  Is this true with you too?  Why or why not?
Yes, I have constant depression. Why?  There is a multiplicity of reasons.

How do you get through your dark times?

I just let them pass until the next one comes.

Give me positives about yourself and/or your life.

My boyfriend loves me, and I have good and bad days on my confidence levels.

Do you believe in God?  Why or why not?

I am a Deist.  Deism is the belief that God has created the universe but remains apart from it and permits his creation to administer itself through natural laws.  Deism thus rejects the supernatural aspects of religion, such as belief in revelation in the Bible and stresses the importance of ethical conduct.  I came to the concept by looking up religious aspects, and I accidentally pressed it.  I liked it so I started researching it, and I found myself to follow it.

What is your favorite quote?  Why is it important to you?

“In the years to come, you will discover that life is a harsh reality.” -me.

What is the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?

I cried in school.

Don’t worry.  There are many times that I cried at school.  I think we are the only ones that remember it happening, not the people who see us doing it.  Remember, crying is not a weakness but an outlet for emotions.

What is something that makes you laugh?

Being with my friends

What makes you cry?

Life, school, my family and friends

What annoys you?

People at school

What are your goals in life?

To be happy

Who inspires you?

Abraham Lincoln and Selena Perez

What do you want to be one day?

Originally an artist but they don’t make much so PCP

The good thing about art is that no matter what you do in life, it always remains in your back pocket.  Your creativity and talent never leave you, so don’t ever leave it!  It is a gift that is not given to everyone.  It makes you unique and special in ways that other people can’t be!

What is something you’ve always wanted/wanted to do but never had the chance?

Rekindle some relationships

If you could do one thing to help change our nation, what would it be and why?

Lower celebrity pay and build homeless shelters, because we sheild the good and expose and celebrate the bad.

What an awesome concept!  How much good could be done in the world if celebrities made an average amount of money like everyone else? Then the rest of that money could go to help people who actually need it.  You should start a movement!  I support it!

What is one thing you want the world to know about you?

I am a physiological, deep thinker.

Deep Purple…  that’s what makes you – you.

What do you think society misunderstands about teenagers?

Everything

What do you want to say to bullies out there?

If I was president and you bullied someone, you will spend two days in jail, but if you made someone commit suicide that would be murder or attempted murder.

You know what?  You have some great thoughts, great ideas, and great words.  What if bullying did leave a blemish on your record for schools and future employers to see?  Just a thought.

What advice would you give teens facing depression, anxiety, or bullying?

Life gets better, and I will understand you.

This is your free space.  Say anything you want.  Be completely open.

As you get older, you really start to understand more about why people drink the night away, smoke their lungs black, and throw themselves off buildings. You see why people cut and get to the point of explosion much quicker than others. What if we all looked the way we wanted? Our ideal weight will become reality. Our worries of financials washed away. Your love life exactly how you pictured it. Do you think we would all be happier? Or would we find a reason to hate that like we do a reality as it is now? What if one day all of our Prince Charming showed up at our door? I guarantee 90% of you will not answer your door. Why would that be? Because we see a flaw in all good things. We’ve gotten so used to the bad that it’s flawless and when we see something good we notice the differences and flaws. Some people cut. Why? Because they are one of those good things. And when the good things get hurt or even broken they become the bad.

She said she was a deep person, and she didn’t lie.  Deep isn’t bad.  Deep isn’t wrong.  Deep is good.  Deep is another way of being.  Deep Purple sees the world in a way that many of us can’t or refuse to.  She feels feelings that some of us have never and may not ever feel.  Without people like Deep Purple the world would be less dynamic and more mundane.  Walking around trying to be like someone else makes us lose sight of the person we truly are made to be.  Thank you so much Deep Purple for opening our eyes to a much deeper way of thinking and living.  You completely changed my day.  I’m sending my love to you today and all the other days you might need it.

Peace and Love,

Robyn

Kiss With a Fist Picture

It’s Wednesday again, and you know what that means…  Teen Life!  If you’re here, you’re invested in these girls and what they have to say.  So, mad props to you.  And, thanks a million to these super awesome chicks week after week for giving us all a glimpse into their lives and thoughts.  It may not always be the easiest thing for them to answer such personal questions.  Please like and share the posts to show them love and support and to help Teen Life gain momentum

Time to introduce today’s guest.  Kiss with a Fist is her name and being blunt is her game.  She packs a mouth on her with comebacks for days.  She is very outspoken, not afraid for her voice to be heard, and always speaks her mind.  Don’t think she’s just hard though, that’s just her shell.  On the inside she has a deep love for God and a very big heart.  She serves at church more than anyone else I know that is her age, and that’s a very refreshing thing to see these days.  Her smile can light up a whole room, and other times her glare lets you know she means business.  I’m proud to say that I taught her “Your Mom” jokes, and now she uses them on me… not always in the right context, but it still makes me proud.  Kiss with a Fist, it’s time to pick your brain!

Bold Luminary

Hello to everyone in My Own Samaria.  Thanks for stopping by and checking out Teen Life today!  If you’re a faithful reader and a fan, thank you.  Please share the posts on Facebook.  You never know whose life you could reach just by hitting that “share” button.

Now, onto the most important person of the day…  World… Meet Bold Luminary.  Bold Luminary, meet the worldWhat can I say about this girl?  Well, she kind of kicks butt in the teen scene, in my opinion.  I’ve heard her give a speech in front of a crowd, and I would hire her for all events…  ummmm… if I had events to hire for, that is…  She makes me smile every single time I see her.  She always greets me with a hug.  She is sarcastic and funny, and that’s a plus in my book.  My kids call her Martha, but that’s not her name.  I have the pleasure of doing this chick’s hair, and she is fearless in the risks she takes with it.  That is too cool to me.  In a world full of normalcy, she chooses to stand out, and I respect that.  I’ve got your back in this “normal world” that all of us weirdos live in.  We have to stick together!  Most of all Bold Luminary, is just that.  She is confident in her skin, and she carries herself like no other teen I know.  That’s refreshing to see these days.  I named her Bold Luminary for many reasons.  Here are the definitions for both words:

Definition of Bold:

  • Not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger orrebuff;

Courageous and daring:

  • not hesitating to break the rules of propriety; forward; impudent:
  • necessitating courage and daring; challenging
  • beyond the usual limits of conventional thought or action; imaginative:
  • striking or conspicuous to the eye; flashy; showy

Definition of Luminary:

  • Aperson who enlightens or influences others

When I look at Bold Luminary or hear her talk, she is seemingly fearless.  I can picture her being in the face of danger, giving it finger motions and saying: “Bring it Punk!”  Now, as far as breaking the rules, I don’t think that is her jam.  Straight laced chick up in here!  She is most definitely courageous, in my eyes.  She is imaginative and goes beyond the conventional limits of daily life.  She is an “outside the box-er”, and pretty flashy when it comes to her hair.  Have I mentioned yet that I think that is super cool?  Whether she knows it or not, she most definitely has influence on others, and has the power to enlighten people out there.  She may already be enlightening people and just not know it.

All these girls have a special place in my heart, and I want the whole world to show them some love!  Let’s raise them up and help them shine their lights in this dark world!  Interview time…  Here goes:

Teen Life.  One Word. Go!

Groovy

What’s your day like?

I get up every morning at the same time, walk to school from my house, talk to my friends while we wait for the bus, and then eventually load the bus to head for the high school.  I usually listen to music on the way there instead of talking because everyone is so loud that you can barely hear yourself think.  Once I arrive at school, my friends and I all get into our group and just chat about classes, some recent drama that came up (which I don’t want to be a part of), and some recent news like the ‘Dang Daniel’ vines.

I don’t know about Dang Daniel.  I suddenly feel old and uncool.  You’ll have to enlighten me…  then maybe I will be cooler…?  Maybe?

From “Dang Daniel” in the morning, I go to whichever class I have, depending on the day.  Nothing really happens until lunch.  I sit in the same place, at the same table, with whatever group of people I have lunch with.  Most of the time, it’s with a couple friends and sometimes one of my friend’s little sisters, who talks up a storm of gossip that I don’t take part in.  (Usually I’m complaining because someone took my seat, and I get pushed off to the side.)   My last class of the day is after lunch.  Then, I ride the bus back to where it drops me off, and I walk home.  I finish my homework, and then play video games. That’s basically my day.

What video games?  That’s what I want to know.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

I don’t remember the year, but it was Christmas day.  All of my family was together, my brother wasn’t struggling with recovery, my parents weren’t worried, and we were all happy.

If you could visit one country, which would it be and why?

Brazil, because of the different culture that I could take part in and experience.

What annoys you?

My Biology class, some of my friends, parents, and brothers.

Thanks for being honest!  Biology annoys you… Math annoys me.  We all have our specific annoyances.

What do you wish your parents did differently?

Nothing really.  My parents raise me the way I should be, and I wouldn’t change anything about them.

What is something you think your parents are awesome at?

I think my mom is awesome at being supportive, and when I need it she’s the best friend I could ever ask for.  I think my dad is awesome at telling me how it is.

If you could learn one thing at school that they don’t teach, what would it be?

How to actually live in the real world.

I think this should be a mandatory class in all public schools.  It is way more important than most things taught in school right now.

What is one thing you would like to say to your teachers?

I really don’t care about any of this, please teach me something I need to know about.

What is something you would like to say to your school?

You put bullying out there and say it’s not okay to do it, but you don’t take it seriously.

Why do you think people want to tear people down or make them feel small through words or actions?

Because they feel bad about themselves, so they have to make everyone else feel bad.

Understanding the reason why bullying happens is important.  Good job for recognizing it.  Now, seeing them through God’s eyes is the challenge.  That’s a hard thing to do when someone is causing hurt and pain in people’s lives that don’t ask for it or deserve it.  One thing is for sure, we never know what storm the bullies have been through in life.  We can’t know what they’re currently facing, but we can know that it must be bad enough to want to hurt others more than the hurt that they feel inside.  That’s a hard thing to comprehend.  What could you do to positively impact someone who has been labeled a “Bully”?

Have you ever been bullied?  If so, describe the situation.

I haven’t really been bullied in my eyes, but my friends considered it bullying. I just didn’t care when people made fun of my weight or the way I was dressed because I don’t need to care what anyone else says.

And that’s why you are a Bold Luminary!  You are confident in yourself and the person God made you to be.  Other people’s opinions don’t make your light dimmer.  You are an amazing person inside and out, and I hope you know that.

Have you ever been cyber bullied?  If so, describe the situation.

I have been cyber bullied and called a bible thumper because I’m a Christian.  Also, I have been called names like ugly, stupid, idiot, fat, and many more that I just can’t think of.  These people online, I thought were my friends, but somethings are too good to be true.

First off, being a Christian is a hard road.  It is not accepted by people the way you think it would be often times.  Keep strong in your faith.  No one can ever take that away from you.  It will never leave you when earthly people do.  It will never tear you down, people will.  It will never seek to destroy your happiness, people will.  The path to finding your true friends isn’t a smooth one.  Sometimes you have to make your own path, and the people who stay true to you are the keepers.  Illuminate that path boldly like only you can do.  Once you get to the end of it you will look back proudly on the work you’ve accomplished and smile.

Have you ever made fun of or bullied anyone before?

I haven’t bullied anyone, but I have made a few snide comments about some other people.  I try my best not to judge because it’s not my place to.

Do you gossip?

I do, but it’s basically to fit in with what people are all talking about.  I don’t want to stick out because I don’t take part in the gossip.

If you see someone being mistreated, gossiped about, or not being included, do you normally sit back and do nothing or do you take a stand?

I take a stand for the people I care about, but I also say things now for people I barely know.  I do that because of how some of my friends get treated.  I don’t want anyone else treated that way.

Do you believe in God?  Why or Why Not?

Yes, I do.  I believe that God sent Jesus down to be crucified and resurrected so that we could be forgiven of our sins, even if we don’t deserve it.

Have you ever been depressed?  If so, what brought it on?

Yes, because of friends feeling down, or things happening at home with my sibling or hard times with money.  I just felt lost and didn’t want to be happy, and I was content with being miserable.

Are you still battling depression?  If not, how did you get through it?

I am not currently depressed, because I had the help of friends and my boyfriend to get me out of the funk I was in.

Good job friends and boyfriend with helping Bold Luminary through her funk.

Does anything give you anxiety?  If so, what?

Tests, school work, sometimes youth group, my friends, my relationship, parents, siblings, a lot of things to be honest.

When you have problems to deal with or when something is bothering you do you :  Stuff them down until you don’t have to deal with them anymore, run from them, or stick it out no matter how hard or how much it hurts?

I resort to sticking it out no matter how much it hurts, continue my life, and just play some video games.

I still want to know what video games you play!

Have you ever experienced verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse?

Yes, verbal abuse

What is the worst thing you’ve ever gotten in trouble for?

At home- Not doing chores and/or lying.  At school- Not doing my homework or talking.

Sex… do you wait for marriage or do you feel like it’s that important to wait anymore?

I believe in waiting until marriage because I don’t think I should give away something so important just to anyone at any time.

Drugs and alcohol.  Tell me about what teens are doing these days.  What kind of drugs?  How often?

Most of the kids at my school like to party which means Beer and Weed. It’s pretty often that they do this kind of stuff, and I don’t believe in taking part in it because I’m totally against it all.  Nobody my age needs to be even drinking, let alone smoking weed.  It’s addictive and can ruin your life.

What makes you laugh?

My best friend and the stupidity we have when we are together.

What makes you cry?

School

Do you feel beautiful?

Most Definitely

You made me smile super big when I read this, because you are beautiful.  Every girl should feel beautiful.  Keep letting your soul shine, Bold Luminary!

What makes you feel beautiful?

My friends telling me, or when I look in the mirror I feel beautiful.  I notice that I look good in my eyes, and it doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks.

YOU ROCK!!!  You have such a strong voice, and you can make other people feel beautiful too just by your words and personality.

What prevents you from feeling beautiful?

My insecurities and lack of confidence

Name one negative thing in your life.

No one understands how I feel.  I just sound like I’m always complaining when I’m trying to explain things.

Now, tell me three positive things about your life.

  • The building of my confidence •Youth Group •What God has blessed my family with

What is the hardest thing you’ve ever faced in your life?  How did you get through it?

Having to work through my own battles to let people go and know that God has got this.

Wow!  That sounds like such an adult thing.  I’m proud of you for recognizing and understanding the importance of this!

Who are you closest to?

My best friend

What is one thing you could change about your life to make it better?

My study habits

What is one thing you could do to make the world a better place?

Participate in bringing more people to Jesus.

What do you think is the best thing about you?

Being able to laugh at the end of every bad situation and continue going.

LOVE this!  Laughter is the best medicine sometimes, even when you don’t want to do it!

What makes you feel self-conscious?

Peers

What worldly cause are you passionate about?

LGBT+

What is one thing you cannot live without?

My phone

What are your hobbies?

Playing video games, and reading

What is something you’ve always wanted or wanted to do but never had the chance to get or do?

To go to Disney Land/World

Ummmm…  Can I go with you?  For real though.   I want to go!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

A Nurse Practitioner

If you had one superpower, what would it be?

To be able to read everyone’s mind

How awesome would that be?

A genie grants you three wishes, what would they be?

1) To not have to worry about how much my grades will affect my entire life

2) To be able to relieve my parents of any money problems for the rest of their lives.

3) To be able to make it through college and make something of my life, unlike some people.

What is the weirdest thing about you?

Everything. I’d rather hang out with my parents than my friends.

Being normal is overrated!  Embrace your weirdness.  Life is much more fun that way!

What is one thing you want your parents to know about you?

I can do this, but sometimes I just need some time to myself.  I can’t handle everything that comes at me.  I do love you, but I’m hard headed like you guys.

What is one thing you want your friends to know about you?

I love all of you even when I’m being a butt to you.  It’s just how I am, and I don’t mean to be rude.

What is one thing you want the world to know about you?

I’m a human being too, who has problems just like you.  I’m not just another teenager, and we all make mistakes, just different ones.

Oh…  Don’t we though.  Mistakes, it’s how we learn.  We are all flawed and no one is immune to mistakes, no matter how “good” they are.

What do you think society misunderstands about teenagers?

That we are all the same when we’re not

What do you want to say to bullies out there?

Why do you do it?  People take serious actions because of you.  You’re so okay with making them feel that way, and when they stand up for themselves you start blaming it all on them.  It’s not their fault at all, it’s just yours.

What would you like to say to teens that struggle with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, abuse, or bullying?

People are here for you, and they love you. They’d hate to see anything happen to you, so please tell someone if you’re feeling down or something is happening to you.  We’re here to help you, and you don’t deserve to be treated this way.

Bold Luminary.  You deserve to walk around with a megaphone in your hand daily so everyone can hear the words you have to say.  Project that voice of yours.  Be heard.  Power up chick!

This is your free space.  Say anything you want.  Be completely open.

I’m a human.  But I’m in that stage of life where everything is just a phase, and because you have a boyfriend/girlfriend means you can’t also like the same gender as yourself.  I don’t understand these times and all the judgement in the world.  It is so not needed and we have no place to be judgmental towards others or anything similar.

Judgement hurts everyone.  I’ve been judged based on my past before.  That judgement, from Christians especially, did nothing positive for me.  It actually drew me further away from church and Christ.  Do all things in love people.  Love = Growth.

That’s another week in the books.  This week’s Teen Life message was brought to you by Bold Luminary.  You can find her rocking her awesome self around schools and churches near you.  Hug your teen tight tonight folks.  We never know how much time God will give us with them.  Thank you for always being a blessing in my life Bold Luminary, and a special thanks for participating in Teen Life.  We are touching lives one day at a time, and you played a huge part this week!

I ask each and every one of you reading to lift Bold Luminary and her family up in your prayers as they lost a very important family member this week.  Pray for strength, peace, and for God to wrap his arms around them and lift them up during this difficult time.  Thank you.

Peace, Love, and Jesus,

A few weeks ago I introduced My Own Samaria’s Teen Life readers to a girl named Rock Light.  She was the first Teen Life participant.  In her questionnaire, she revealed that she wanted to become a chef.  My brain started spinning on how I could make something special happen for her.  I have a friend, Lindsey Briggs, who is in Culinary Arts School at West Kentucky Community and Technical College.  I contacted her, we brainstormed, and then she gave me a couple names of people to contact.  I would like to say that some people in this world are truly nice and helpful when it comes to making other’s feel special, and Chef Patrick Fletcher and Lindsey at the Culinary Arts School are a couple of those people.  Chef Patrick didn’t hesitate when I asked him if he would be willing to let Rock Light come in and shadow Lindsey.  We set up a date and time with Chef Patrick, Lindsey, and Rock Light’s Dad, and waited for the day to approach.

This was a surprise.  Rock Light had no clue what was going on but tried her best to get anyone to reveal the secret.  Her Dad told her she was going fishing, and while that wasn’t exactly true…  She did get to prepare a seafood dish, (Shrimp Remoulade).  She was stoked when we walked in and said, “Oh my gosh!  I know where this is!  Thank you so much!”  She was all smiles, concentration, and appreciation that day.  I got to stand over and watch her make her dish from start to finish.  She started out with a recipe and ingredients and ended up with a plated dish that looked like a professional made it.  I was proud of her and beyond excited that I got to be a part of her special day.

Thank you again to Chef Patrick Fletcher, West Kentucky Community and Technical College Culinary Arts School, and Lindsey Briggs for making Rock Light’s life a little brighter.

Joy Blossom

Teen Life Logo

Teen Life Week 3.  I want to introduce a really sweet, happy, God-Loving Girl to the readers of My Own Samaria’s Teen Life.  Everyone meet Joy Blossom.  The naming of Joy Blossom was easy for me because every time I see her, no matter how long it’s been she is so full of joy.  Blossom came from the fact that she has already started to blossom into something beautiful inside that the whole world can see on the outside.  Hugs are her thing, and they radiate so much love and happiness.  Being in her presence without happiness in your heart isn’t possible.  Thanks Joy Blossom for always making me smile.  You are a joy to be around!  Keep letting yourself blossom!

Teen Life.  One Word.  Go!

Challenging

So, What’s it like to be a teenager in 2016?

Being a teen can be very fun, but at the same time, it can be very hard and challenging.  When you are a teen, you start going through a lot of changes, like the transitions from elementary school to middle school, and then from middle school to high school.  As a teen, you might have a lot more responsibilities like doing chores, getting up in the morning on your own, doing your homework without being told, etc.  On the plus side, you can start driving, you could start getting lots of great opportunities, and you can start making great new relationships with people.

Describe your day in detail?

First, I wake up and go to the bathroom.  I brush my hair and teeth; then put on deodorant.  I go to my room and start putting on my make-up.  After I put on my make-up, I gather everything I need for school.  I get on the bus and go to school.  As soon as I get there, I go to the band room and practice what I’ve learned from guard.  I go through all of my classes.  On Monday’s I have guard practice.  Every other day I ride the bus home.  When I get home, I put my school things in my room, then start my homework.  When I finish my homework, I start studying in my Bible for about 30 minutes.  After that, I do my chores, get a shower, and finally get ready for bed.

Ahem.  Joy Blossom… you forgot food.  You have to eat.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Don’t forget food, it’s so good!

What do you struggle with?

There are a few things I struggle with such as:  dealing with my dad who lives in Oklahoma, fear of what people think of me, pleasing everyone, and trying to put Jesus in everything I do.

What are the positives in your life?

Having great friends, an amazing church family, and being part of an amazing youth group

What are the negatives in your life?

Dealing with a stepdad who isn’t always the nicest person, never having much of a good father figure in my life, and always being negative

What is the hardest thing you’ve ever had to deal with?

My mom and dad splitting up and then my dad never being there for me afterward.  He always broke his promises and always caused a lot of guilt and negativity in my life.  I haven’t seen him in 5 years.  He threatens to sign over his rights to me and leave me, and now we never really talk much.

Sometimes the hardest things we go through fuel us to become someone so far from that pain.  Use that hardship for growth, but don’t ever let it define you.  The struggle isn’t our definition, but the person we grow into after the storm is!  Joy Blossom, you’re on the right path to understanding this at an early age.  It doesn’t mean there’s not pain in the struggle.  It just means we hand that pain over to someone/something much bigger than ourselves and then it doesn’t hurt near as bad.

Building on the question above, how did you get through that struggle?

I read in my Bible a lot about it and talked to people I was close to at my church like my pastor and my youth leader.

See what I mean…  You are on the right path!

How many friends, true friends, would you say you have?

About 8

What’s the #1 thing you feel like your peers struggle with today?

Trying to fit in with everybody

Out of your friend circle, what is the hardest thing they’ve faced as a teenager?

Failing at something they thought was very important to them.

Depression and Suicide are a huge issue among teenagers.  Have you ever struggled with depression or had suicidal thoughts?  Why or Why not?

I have never struggled with depression or had suicidal thoughts.  I knew that God created me in His perfect image, that I am worth a lot, and that I am very loved by many people.

Joy Blossom, could you tell that to all of us adults out here in the world struggling with body image?  We need to hear that, take it in, accept it, and feel the love!  You rock my world.  Thank you!

Do you know of anyone your age who struggles with depression or suicidal thoughts?

Yes

What do you think the solution to these struggles is (Depression, Suicidal Thoughts, and any other Teenage Hardship)?

Be there for the people going through those things and go to a trusted adult about it.

What is your relationship like with your parents?   Positive or Negative

Both

Explain why you gave the answer above.

I have a mostly positive relationship with my mom.  She is always there for me and takes care of me.  But my dad, on the other hand, I don’t have as good of a relationship with him.  I’ve been through a lot with my dad, and at the end of everything that happened, he pretty much left me.

What is something you would like your parents to know about you?

I want my mom to know how much I love her and thank her for always being there for me through everything.  My dad, I would like him to know how he has always made me feel, how much he hurt me, and everything he has missed about me for the past 5 years.

How do you think your relationship could grow with your parents?

With my mom, I could open up to her a little more.  With my dad, I honestly have no idea and don’t know if I want much of a relationship with him anymore.

Do you believe in God?

Absolutely, more than anything.

If Yes, What is your relationship with God like?

It is the BEST thing I ever chose to do.  I am a follower of Christ, and I go to Him for everything.  I go to church and youth every Sunday, and I read His word every chance I get.  It was the BEST choice I EVER made.

It truly is the BEST choice EVER, right???  Joy Blossom you are such a blessing.

What makes you happy?

I have a roof over my head, people who love and care about me, a church and church family to go to, a HUGE God, a great life, and I’m just so blessed.

What are your goals and ambitions?

I want to be very successful in life and bring as many people to God as I can.

Never lose sight.  That goal will not always be the easiest, but it will be worth it!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

A Math Teacher for deaf kids and/or an interpreter

What is your favorite song?

Blessed Redeemer, Call it Grace, or Set Me Free

https://youtu.be/n-0SZYTVZks

What is your favorite band?

Casting Crowns

Casting Crowns Picture

What is your favorite movie?

What is something you would like everyone to know about you?

One of the things I go by daily is Love God, Love People, and I love guard.

What do you feel like people think of you as a person?

I think most people like me, but there are some people who might not like my personality as much.

Do you feel beautiful?  Yes/No

Yes

If yes, what makes you feel beautiful?

Everyday people always tell me how pretty I am, and I know that I was created in God’s perfect image.

How do you feel about yourself on a daily basis?

I feel like I’m smart, pretty, and a very loving person

Joy Blossom, you are all of those things:  smart, pretty, and a very loving person.  Awesome self analysis

What do you do for fun?

Work on things I learned from guard, hang out with friends, and help out in the community as much as I can.

What are your hobbies?

Painting, sketching, and guard

You owe me some art chick!  Let’s get that on My Own Samaria asap!!

What is your favorite thing to do with your friends?

Go to the mall or somewhere where we can hang out together

What makes you laugh?

Funny jokes, my friends, and being unique and weird around people I’m comfortable with

What makes you cry?

My dad when he starts being negative around me and when people upset me

Do you have a boyfriend?

Yes

What’s the worst thing that you’ve ever gotten in trouble for?

Taking $5 off of my step-dad’s desk

What do you think people misunderstand about teenagers most?

Just because one teen is a certain way, doesn’t mean we are all that way.

A genie grants you three wishes, what are your wishes?

  1. To find a cure for cancer
  2. To have everyone know Christ
  3. To have a dad who I felt like was a dad to me and was a good dad

If you had the power to change the world, how would you change it?

I would help out all of the homeless people and the people in need

If you had one superpower what would it be?

Read people’s minds

Have you ever been bullied?

Yes, many times

Is bullying something that happens regularly at your school?  If so, how do you handle it?

Bullying happens a lot at my school.  If I see someone being bullied, I will try to help that person and go to a teacher.

How do you feel about gossip and how does it affect you?

I don’t like gossip because it can make so many things seem like it’s the wrong thing.  Then, it keeps spreading through people and changing and becoming even worse.  There have been a few times that a rumor has gotten spread about me or one of my friends, and it really upset me.

What/Who inspires you?  Why?

My youth leader.  She’s always been a great influence on me ever since I met her.  She was always there for me when I needed someone, and she always encouraged me.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life?  Why?

My mom.  She taught me so much.  She was always telling me right from wrong and the ways of life.  I’ve looked up to my mother my whole life, and I have always tried to follow in her footsteps.

Who is the person you would most like to meet?  Why?

My grandfather on my mom’s side.  He passed away when my mom was 16 because of a heart attack.  I’ve always heard so many great stories about him, and I would really love to meet him and get to know him.

What do you want to say to teens out there struggling?

Whatever you are going through, no matter how bad the situation, it will get better.  2Corinthians 4:17-18 “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So, if we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”  This too shall pass.  It won’t last forever.  Don’t make long term designs for short term problems.  You are loved, and you matter!  Have hope and faith and try to stay positive!

You win my smiles for the day!  Working on your interview on this yucky, rainy day has given me so many happy moments.  Your words are so on point.  You must have an awesome, Godly mentor/mentors in your life!

What do you want to say to adults out there reading this article?

No matter what happens between you and your kids, never leave them.  It’s very hard growing up without both of your parents because one of them left you.  No matter what we say to you, we always have and always will love you.

In the space below write anything that is on your heart or mind.  Be completely open.  This is your time!

Every person you encounter in your life is going through something, and they need to be loved.  You never know what people are going through and you never know what they need.  Even something so small such as a hug or even just a smile could be just the thing they needed at that moment.  Be encouraging, up-lifting, and positive.  Be the shining light that someone might need that day, and let your light shine bright.

Each time you hug me or anyone in life, God is using you.  He uses you so often that you probably don’t even realize it yet.  You are learning to be Jesus with skin on at an early age, and that will set the foundation for your future.  Your hugs are your light.  Never stop hugging!!!

So many people out there could really benefit from Joy Blossom’s words and actions.  Hug someone today, even when you don’t really feel like it.  Remember that God created you in His image, so love yourself.  If you look in the mirror and don’t like what you see, then you are saying God made a mistake.  He doesn’t make mistakes.  Embrace your flaws and find a way to use them to make this world a better place.  Use Joy Blossom’s advice today and take your first step toward the journey to loving yourself.  God uses teens too, and today he is using Joy Blossom.  And, hug your kids a little tighter tonight.  Let them know you love them, and that you will never leave them. Find a different way to make them feel a little more special.  And, if you made a mistake, it’s not too late to correct it.  It’s never too late.  Love God, Love People.

Thank you, Joy Blossom, for participating in Teen Life.  You may never know who’s life you impacted just by sharing your words.  I’m sending my love your way today.

Peace, Love, and Jesus,

Robyn

Dauntless Harajuku

Teen Life Logo

It’s Teen Life Week 2!  It is important that these Teen’s identities remain anonymous since we discuss very personal information.  They need some kind of name on here though!  Each week, I will create one for them so they at least have something to go by!

Without any further adieu:  Bold and brave, quiet and sweet, and lover of Japanese Anime; these are the reasons she is dubbed:  Dauntless Harajuku.  This chick is super fun!  There’s so much awesomeness packed inside her, and I can’t wait until she realizes her full potential.  The world will be a much cooler place as soon as she lets her personality explode into it!  We have had some in depth conversations with each other, and that is one of my favorite things about her.  This girl reminds me a lot of myself when I was a teen, so she holds a special place in my heart!  She doesn’t even know how much she changed my direction, just having her presence in my life!  World… meet Dauntless Harajuku and her thoughts!

Teen Life…  One paragraph… Go!

To be a teenager is like being so close to do what you want, but yet so far from reaching it.  You basically have your whole future thrown at you:  What you want to be, how you’re going to get there, and you need to keep to that path.  You have an image to uphold these days.  You’ve got to keep up with the Trend Topics, the hottest shows, and the newest fashion sense.  You don’t have time to just be you.

Now, using one word, tell me what it’s like to be a teenager?

Exhausting

Describe your day in detail?

I wake up and sit in bed for 15 minutes debating if I should move, even when I know I need to. I do my daily morning routine, head to school, and go back home. That’s basically my life.

What do you struggle with?

Emotions & Work

What are the positives in your life?

My Family & Friends

What are the negatives in your life?

My own mind

What is the hardest thing you’ve ever had to deal with?

The first time I was lied to and used as trash

Dauntless Harajuku, trash is discarded matter that people throw out so it can never serve another purpose other than to wither away, never being seen again.  The thing is… you’re a person.  I SEE YOU!  Even though you feel like you might have been used as trash… you’re still here, not being trash, you’re being you.  Trash has no say in the matter of where it ends up once it is thrown out.  You, my Japanese Princess… you have the POWER to do anything and everything you want.  The world is at your fingertips.  Though you can’t change the situation that happened, you can change who has the power to make you feel the way you do.  Each time you rise up and kick the day, week, month, year, life’s butt… you show that person how much power you hold.  Let me tell you, you possess more power than the person who treated you like trash.  Why?  Because they don’t value things that matter.  They think the easy thing to do is to throw their valuables out when they are done with them.  They don’t know or understand the importance of kindness and other people’s feelings.  You, though, you have a story of how you’ve been at a low in life and your story is still being written about how you will pull through and prevail!  Seeing the look on someone’s face once your story gains power = priceless!

Also, some of my most prized possessions are the used things that people threw out as trash.  One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.  That second man…  he doesn’t see the trash!  He sees the story in the history and most importantly its beauty!  The definition of trash is in the way you view it!  Changing your view allows you to change your life!

Building on the question above, how did you get through that struggle?

I have the help of My Family & Friends.  They help me through!

Thank God for Family and Friends, right Dauntless Harajuku?  And, thank you guys for being there for her!  You’re a pivotal part of her story!

What do you think people misunderstand about teenagers most?

We are normal human beings, we aren’t another species. Teenagers are the most misunderstood people on earth. Treated like children but expected to act like “adults”. What is your opinion on this particular saying?  As a teenager myself, I absolutely agree with this quote as adults have been continuously stereotyping us, teenagers, excessively.

Adolescents nowadays are often considered as rebellious or moody or undependable, as the society have been constantly exposed to the stereotyping of adolescences. These stereotypes have a way of altering society’s mind set, causing them to be incompetent in differentiating the reality and the chosen representation, thus leading to the misunderstanding between adolescence and adults.

Whoa!  There’s some power… Very deep and good words!  Stereotypes are often more hurtful than helpful.  You can’t put a whole group that came from different places into one tiny little box, smack a label on it, and expect them all to be the same.  This isn’t a factory, and quality control isn’t walking around making sure everything and everyone is perfect before they are sent out into the world!  Am I right Dauntless Harajuku?

A genie grants you three wishes, what are they?

  1. Unlimited Money
  2. World Peace
  3. Cure for Every Disease

If you had the power to change the world, how would you change it?

I would make a better nation.  We as a nation are in so much debt. We owe so much money to different nations than our own. We should focus on our own problems, like homelessness and diseases.

Dauntless Harajuku for President in 2036???

If you had one superpower what would it be?

Shape-shift

Have you ever been bullied?

No

Is bullying something that happens regularly at your school?  If so, how do you handle it?

I don’t know. I don’t pay attention to what’s around at school.  If I saw it, I’d probably hit the dude in the shoulder and tell him to back off.

How do you feel about gossip and how does it affect you?

Depends, I love to gossip.

What/Who inspires you? Why?

I don’t really know

Who has been the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My Mother

Who is the person you would most like to meet? Why?

Michael Jackson

What do you want to say to teens out there struggling?

Just Smile and Kick Butt!

Word.  I like that saying!

What do you want to say to adults out there reading this article?

Please be better understanding of us teenagers.  We are going to do things we will regret later on, but we need to get it out of our systems so that we can be wise adults.

In the space below write anything that is on your heart or mind.  Be completely open.  This is your time!

I want to change my image.

Dauntless Harajuku, thank you so much for participating in Teen Life.  In case you didn’t catch it earlier… you changed my path chick, and that changed my life.  It will quite possibly change other people’s lives in the future.  I’m telling you…  you have power.  Ball it up in your fists and use it to propel you through life!  You rock my world, and I’m sending my love to you today!

There ya go folks!  Another week, another teen!  I love them to pieces and want to see them succeed beyond what they even realize they are capable of.  Depression, anxiety, and suicide are real things out there, in ALL ages!  Not any one person is immune to it.  Sometimes it is hereditary, sometimes it is situational, sometimes it has to do with hormones, and sometimes it is for reasons we don’t know or understand.  It is not something we should just try to cover up and will eventually go away.  It is not a “phase” teens are going through.  No matter how they are labeled by society; emo, gothic, troubled, unruly, out of control, or “unreachable”, they are people trying to figure out their way just like the rest of us.  Love is universal.  Love can work miracles.  Spread it and mean it.  Let’s get back to loving people more than we judge people and see how much of a difference that makes.  Do you have a teen you can’t get through to?  See if you can find someone who is neutral, who they can feel safe talking to, and have them be a mentor to your child!  Don’t have a teen but want to help?  If you know or see a teen out there who may or may not appear to be struggling, become a mentor to them.  Not every teen that appears outwardly happy is truly happy inside.  And, not every teen that appears angry outside is truly unhappy inside.  Teens, take a chance on someone who reaches out to you.  You never know how they could change your life.

Peace, Love, and Jesus,

Robyn
